Lizzy May

Lizzy May (she/they) is a devising artist, playwright, and educator whose work centers embodiment and imagination. After teaching in Chicago’s public schools for eight years, she now writes and teaches arts-integrated, healing-based curricula with nonprofits including Once Upon Our Time Capsule. In 2024, she received her Master’s in Educational Leadership from U.C. Berkeley while conducting action research on the impact of arts-integrated interventions in reducing restrictive discipline. In 2017, Lizzy founded Backyard Chicago Ensemble to develop inter-generational theater and offer after-school trauma-responsive theater education. She currently devises new performance work with queer artists.
