Daira Rodriguez is a first-generation director and teaching artist from Waukegan, IL with a passion for new works, devising, and working with young minds. Daira recently completed the Directing/Artistic Apprenticeship at Seattle Repertory Theater after graduating from Northwestern University with a degree in Theatre and Gender Studies. Now based in Chicago, Daira is a teaching artist at Mudlark Theater and Chicago Children’s Theatre. Recent projects include “Wild Child” (The Breathe Project), “The Good Girls” (Artemisia Theatre), “Echo’s Inferno” (The Understudy), “A Home What Howls” (Steppenwolf Theatre Company), “Little Women” (Seattle Rep), and “Elyse and Mae Play the Most Epic Game of Life Ever” (Strawberry Theatre Workshop). Daira is inspired most by the works of Octavia E. Butler, RF Kuang, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
