Catherine Councell

Catherine “CC” Councell (she/her) raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina she is an actor, teaching artist, and Nervous System & the Artist Coach. She holds her Master of Fine Arts in Performance Arts from the University of Iowa, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance Arts from Brenau University. She is certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid, Muscle Music Nervous System & the Artist, and in Trauma-conscious consent-based practices for the classroom/stage. Catherine has been a theatre artist since 2012 and has taught with professional theater companies and university programs in North Carolina, Georgia, Iowa, and Illinois. She has been with Chicago Children’s Theatre since 2022 teaching classes for the very young all the way to teens, Red Kite classes, and much more. Catherine joined other amazing teaching artists in the development of CCT’s Residencies of Art and Resilience (R.O.A.R), Red Kite Drama Time, and the Cabinet of Wonder with Natalie Merchant and the CSO. In 2023 she joined as a cast member of Red Kite Green Mountain Friendship Tour, and was hired in 2024 to be a part-time Curriculum Development Associate on staff. Catherine acts, improvs, makes music, moves, devises, writes, crafts- but she believes that theatrical arts are unique because they hold an invitation for audiences to transform into community through experiences that ask something of them; even if all that it asks is that you show up. Her special passion is immersive; sensory experiences that make the mundane magical which she believes helps strengthen the collective compassion for a world that desperately needs us to wake up.
