Amparo Pons Grau

Amparo Pons Grau (born in Valencia, Spain in 1998) is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Chicago. Her practice is mostly focused on sculpture and aims to translate intimate interviews and stories into art objects. Recurring themes in work are identity, queerness, acceptance, taboos and rebellion. Amparo received several local and regional writing awards (such as the Coca- Cola Foundation Award for Talented Youth, or the Cervantex Award) before she decided to study Fine Arts. She is currently pursuing her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago while working at the SAIC Metalshop and the Sharp Instructional Shops. Additionally, she has recently interned as a teaching apprentice with the Chicago Children’s Theatre, apprenticed under Chicago artist Dana Major, and received a Distinguished Scholars Scholarship and SAIC Parent’s Council Award for her work.
