Older Stages Classes

Chicago Children’s Theatre’s Older Stages Classes feature our tenacious Acting Series for Grades K-3 in addition to our rotating Masterclasses for Grades K-8. In our Acting Series, students will build the necessary tools for collaboration and communication in the rehearsal room and beyond. In the alternating Masterclasses, curriculum promotes curiosity and expertise in distinct mediums of storytelling.

The young playwrights will craft a blueprint for an extended narrative including a detailed structure, developed cast of characters, and thoughtful world building. Plans in hand, the class will delve into the writing process, examining style, pacing, figurative language, and more. Of course, the best part will be meeting every week to write and act out pieces of our plays together!

Think you can’t do improv from home or play games? Missing storytelling with your friends in class? Join friends through Zoom to play improv and theater games to get our creative juices flowing and have some fun! In this class, we will create our own Improv Troupe complete with a ridiculous name and lots of jokes. Mustaches and flannel shirts are optional.

Stage & Movie SFX Makeup | Spring 2021
Runs Apr 7 - Jun 9, 2021

Grades 4-7
Wednesday, 4:30-5:30 PM CST on Zoom
Join your friends as we transform ourselves every week to the fun, scary, and wild creatures that we encounter on stage and in the movies. In this class, students will learn the basics of stage makeup and practice a new concept and application every week. This class will be different from the Winter Makeup class by adding more fantasy-based looks. So what will you become? A 90 year old version of yourself, an animal from the jungle, or a mystical creature from the depths of the ocean?

NOTE: Students must have a Ben Nye Personal Theatrical Creme Kit ($60) and the Ben Nye Professional FX Rainbow Wheel ($19) for class. For returning students, please not that that 2 small kits previously required are the same as the Ben Nye Personal Theatrical Creme Kit and there should be no need to reorder.
