About the Club:
Children ages 7 and up are invited to join CCT’s new Book Club. Special perks include $10 tickets for children and $27 tickets for parents to select performances. After kids read the book at their own pace and in their favorite reading nook, they’re invited to see CCT’s professional production of the same story at a discounted price. The upcoming Book Club selection is Paul Fleischman’s Seedfolks.
Club members are invited to special events and performances. Events are currently pending for Seedfolks, which runs from May 5-22.
About the Author and Book:
Paul Fleischman is a Newbery Award-winning children’s book author. Inspired by his author-father, Fleischman wrote his first books while in college. Seedfolks was inspired partially by Fleischman’s mother’s, who used her gardening skills to give back to her community, as well as by the healing power of community gardens. Fleischman planted his own miniature garden as part of the research process, and traveled all over to encounter different community gardens. Seedfolks has been chosen for numerous school-wide, district-wide, and city-wide reads.
Seedfolks features thirteen different characters that come together to tell the story of the founding of a community garden in Cleveland, Ohio. The characters come from different ethnic groups and diverse backgrounds, and experience transformation as they work to change an empty lot into a garden. Parents should be aware that the book deals with mature themes that they may want to preview or discuss with their children.
